The Friends of Sompting Church: chairman's letter
29 September 2014
At the AGM I was elected Chairman of the Friends of Sompting Church to succeed Phil Klemenic.
To introduce myself: Mrs Judy Excell, married at Sompting St Mary's.
I attend the eight o'clock service at St Mary's but not every Sunday. I am on the electoral roll and I am on the rota as a reader and a sidesman.
The Friends are assisting in the purchase of a new boiler for St Mary's, the old one being beyond repair; this also involves repair to the boilerhouse so that it does not leak. The assistance is being provided from existing funds.
As we are unable to raise funds within the Church I am seeking ideas for fund-raising in any other way. So far we have: saving change in jars which are handed over to the Treasurer once a year. We are also considering the possibility of attending car boot or table sales if we receive enough suitable objects to offer for sale. As we are near the end of the 'car boot' season the suggestion is to collect up items for 2015.
If you have any further ideas for fund-raising, please let me know.
